Johanna Niles

I am an African-Caribbean Canadian educator, behavior and communication consultant, social entrepreneur, sibling and caregiver, whose passion and commitment are to increase equitable access to developmental services through partnership building, educational training, and community empowerment. With over 14 years of experience in the Developmental Services (DS) sector, I have been fortunate to work with several Ministry-funded agencies, delivering services to children, youth, and adults with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or an Intellectual Disability. These years, for me, have reaffirmed the importance of representation, and the importance of developing and delivering service that is culturally responsive.
I am excited to be a part of this group because Sawubona understands the importance of creating a platform where the community, parents and/or caregivers can be empowered, where our voices are heard, validated, and amplified, and where we can learn in a space that takes into consideration our various social locations including race, culture, and disability. Sawubona sees and hears us!
I love writing poetry. I find it very relaxing and a great form of self-care.
