Arts Opportunity in Toronto
Hello Sawubona Afrocentric Circle of Support
I hope you've all been well and have had a great start to the year!
My name is Makenzie Morgan and I am the Director of Community Partnerships and Programs at the COC. I wanted to reach out and connect with Sawubona in spreading the word about one of our upcoming initiatives.
This upcoming February, we will continue relationship building as the COC will be hosting our first relaxed performance of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen on February 13th, 2024. While the opera will remain unchanged, adjustments will be made in the theatre to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for members of the Disability Community, Neurodiverse or Autistic individuals, and anyone who may experience anxiety and/or feel they may want extra support to attend an opera.
In preparation, my team will be hosting a “Meet Your Seat” event where ticket holders will be able to tour specific spaces at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, become familiar with our Quiet and Quieter rooms and gain a clearer understanding of what to expect during performance day.
I would love to invite the families and networks of Sawubona Afrocentric Circle of Support to join us on February 6th and of course, would love to see as many families as we can on February 13th for the relaxed performance. If you are able to send this information out to the Sawubona Afrocentric Circle of Support network, that would be so appreciative. We would love to see many new faces as we hope to introduce this whimsical opera to new audiences and bring a little magic to our community
