SEAC representatives needed to begin in September 2024 for the Peel and Durham Catholic District School Boards
Greetings community,
As we look forward to the summer break, the work of Sawubona will continue behind the scenes. We are grateful to the family members and members of our group who have taken on the role of Special Education Advisory Committee members representing the Black parent/caregiver voice at the various SEACs across the GTA.
But at times, life can get in the way and one can no longer fulfill the demands of the role.
We are reaching out to ask for someone among our group, or a friend or family member that you know, who has a heart for this work, to step up and be a SEAC rep. for either the Peel District School Board or the Durham Catholic District School Board.
The criteria is that you must live in the Peel region or Durham region and be eligible to vote/be a Canadian Citizen. You do not have to have a child currently attending school in these school boards, but it would help.
These committees meet once per month, usually online for 2 hours. Your responsibility is to attend, ask questions, voice the concerns or needs of Black parents and share with Sawubona any new learning that our parents need or should know about.
If interested, email us at info@sawubonaacs.org or call us at 647-491-3775.
If we do not have proper representation, we may lose these seats on the two committees. Our representatives for the Toronto DSB and Durham DSB will continue and we are grateful.
