CORRECTION: Parent/Caregiver virtual meeting Tuesday June 11th

Hi everyone,

We have an important meeting when we next gather for our virtual meeting on June 11 at 7pm. We will get the opportunity to give feedback to the City of Toronto on its new 10-yr Confronting Anti-Black Racism Plan.  It is a unique opportunity to shape the direction of the city of Toronto. If you live, work or play in the city of Toronto, we want to hear from you, especially in light of our focus on disabilities, one of the groups of people they want to get feedback from.

We are hoping for a strong turn out from the group.

Here are the 10 themes they have identified. Please reflect on them in advance of the meeting:

  1. Community health and Well-being- e.g. engage voice of people with disabilities, mental illness and addictions in planning; collect race-based data to inform healthcare

  2. Community funding and access to services- e.g. more funding for Black led supports; invest in better infrastructure for Black communities

  3. Employment, Income and business supports- funds for Black businesses, Black entrepreneurship, support for Black youth and those with disabilities

  4. Arts and culture- funding to support Black arts community

  5. Community safety, policing and the justice system-  spaces for Black youth programming; different approaches to law enforcement

  6. Child and Family Welfare- address anti-Black racism in schools; support for Black fathers

  7. Youth Development- research to eliminate discriminatory practices; targeted workforce programs for Black youth

  8. Community space and neighbourhood development-

  9. Black leadership, civic engagement & culture change- track racial discrimination amongst City's employees

  10. Housing- e.g. - partnerships to develop housing; collect data on experiences of Black housing seekers

We look forward to hearing your perspectives on what the City should be focussing on.
